Radfahren in den Bergen Kretas ist garantiert eine unvergessliche Erfahrung. Diese individuellen Touren führen vom Kretischen Meer im Norden durch die Berge Zentralkretas mit ihren traditionellen Dörfern bis zur südlichen Küste dieser Region. Dabei werden die Gastfreundschaft der Einheimischen, die Geschichte Kretas und die verschiedenen Landschaftsformen der Insel zu einem hautnahen Erlebnis. Landestypische Unterkünfte und ein organisierter Gepäcktransport machen diesen Urlaub perfekt. Charakter der Reise Es handelt sich um eine individuelle, selbstgeführte E-Bike-Reise durch Zentralkreta. Aus diesem Grund sind Erfahrung im Umgang mit Routenbeschreibungen und ein guter Orientierungssinn Voraussetzung. Weiterhin sind eine gute Kondition und Erfahrung mit dem E-Bike in bergiger Landschaft wichtig. Die Wege führen über meist asphaltierte, verkehrsarme Nebenstraßen und selten über Schotterwege. Es werden bis zu 670 Höhenmetern erreicht. Falls trotz GPS-Daten und Reisebeschreibung Probleme auftauchen, helfen einheimische Kreter gerne weiter. Sie sind immer hilfsbereit und freuen sich mit Fremden in Kontakt zu treten und ihre Sprachkenntnisse aufzufrischen. |

Cycling in the mountains of Crete is guaranteed to be an unforgettable experience. These individual tours lead from the Cretan Sea in the north through the mountains of central Crete with their traditional villages to the southern coast of this region. The hospitality of the locals, the history of Crete and the different landscapes of the island become a first-hand experience. Typical local accommodation and organised luggage transport make this holiday perfect. Character of the trip This is an individual, self-guided e-bike tour through central Crete. For this reason, experience in dealing with route descriptions and a good sense of orientation are a prerequisite. A good level of fitness and experience with e-bikes in mountainous terrain are also important. The routes are mostly on tarmac, low-traffic side roads and rarely on gravel paths. You will climb up to 670 metres in altitude. If problems arise despite the GPS data and route description, the local Cretans are happy to help. They are always ready to help and are happy to socialise with strangers and brush up on their language skills. |

Sie fahren in südwestlicher Richtung zum Dorf Kavrochori. Die Landschaft ist mediterran geprägt mit Weinbergen und Olivenhainen. Nach ca. 15 km, etwas außerhalb des Dorfes Korfes, steht beeindruckend die größte und älteste Eiche Kretas. Anschließend fahren Sie zum historischen Hauptort Kroussonas. Es liegt auf einer Höhe von etwa 500 Metern und stellt damit die höchste Erhebung der heutigen Route dar. Dann geht es bergab durch ein Tal und sofort wieder bergauf, bis zum malerischen Dorf Pentamodi. Von hier aus geht es weiter bergab bis zum Ausgangspunkt, dem Strand von Ammoudara. Strecke 42 km - Zeit 5 Std. - Anstieg 820 m - Abstieg 820 m - Schotterweg 600 m Unterkunft: Hotel Petousis oder ähnlich Verpflegung: Frühstück Tag 3 Ammoudara – Dafnes – Agios Thomas – Agia Varvara – Prinias – Asites - Ammoudara Der Start ist am Hotel. Der Ausflug endet mit einer Weinprobe in einer bekannten Weinkellerei im Dorf Asites. Sie fahren in südlicher Richtung von der Stadt Heraklion, die Sie nach 3 km hinter sich gelassen haben. Die Strecke ist von mediterraner Vegetation geprägt. Nach 20 km erreichen Sie das Dorf Dafnes, das als die Weinhauptstadt Kretas gilt. Sie setzen Ihre Route in südlicher Richtung zum Dorf Agios Thomas fort. Hier können Sie die römischen Gräber aus dem 3. Jahrhundert n. Chr. besichtigen. Im Café des Dorfes können Sie eine Pause einlegen und die Fahrräder ohne Risiko stehen lassen. Von hier aus gehen Sie etwa 100 Meter den Hügel hinauf. Auf diesem Hügel befinden sich die römischen Gräber. Weiter geht es zum Ort Agia Varvara, das Sie durchqueren und nach 4 Kilometern das Dorf Prinias auf einer Höhe von 610 Metern erreichen. Unmittelbar nach diesem Dorf befindet sich die Kapelle Agios Panteleimon auf einem Hügel. Um diese Kapelle zu besuchen ist es von hier aus ein Fußweg von ca. 30 Minuten. Sehr lohnend, weil der Panoramablick von hier einzigartig ist. Das nächste bedeutende Dorf der Gegend heißt Asites. Hier befindet sich die Weinkellerei Diamantakis, deren Weinprobe 8 verschiedene Weine bereithält. Nach der Weinverkostung werden Sie und Ihre Fahrräder zurück ins Hotel gebracht. Strecke 51 km - Zeit 5 Std. - Anstieg 1200 m - Abstieg 760 m - Schotterweg 2 km Unterkunft: Hotel Petousis oder ähnlich Verpflegung: Frühstück Tag 4 Ammoudara – Agios Myron – Zaros Heute verlassen Sie Ihre erste Unterkunft und das Gepäck wird in den Zielort Zaros gebracht. Mit dem E-Bike fahren sie in südwestlicher Richtung zum Ort Zaros. Es liegt am Fuße des Ida-Gebirges, dem höchsten Gebirgszug Kretas. Zaros versorgt beinahe die gesamte Insel mit Wasser, die Region ist fruchtbar und der See von Zaros ist ein beliebtes Ausflugsziel. Besonders die nahegelegene Forellenzucht lockt Einheimische und Touristen zum Gaumenschmaus. Um Zaros zu erreichen, müssen viele Dörfer Zentralkretas durchquert werden. Das wichtigste von ihnen ist das Dorf Agios Myron auf einer Höhe von 440 Metern. Agios Myron ist nach dem Heiligen Myron benannt, der zwischen 250 und 350 n. Chr. hier geboren wurde und der erste christliche Bischof von Kreta war. Der Überlieferung nach tauchte eines Tages nördlich der Siedlung ein Löwe auf, und die Bewohner begannen aus Angst vor dem Tier aus ihren Häusern zu fliehen. Doch der heilige Myron betete für ihre Rettung und der Löwe starb. Wer heute genau hinschaut, sieht den Schwanz des Löwen im nordwestlichen Teil des Dorfes und seinen Kopf im südwestlichen Teil, direkt in der Höhle, in der das Heilige Wasser fließt. Strecke 47 km - Zeit 5 Std. - Anstieg 1000 m - Abstieg 670 m - Schotterweg 0 km Unterkunft: Hotel Idi oder ähnlich Verpflegung: Frühstück Tag 5 Zaros - Messara-Ebene – Apesokari – Lentas - Dyskos Auch heute verlassen Sie die Unterkunft und das Gepäck wird zum Zielort gebracht. Es geht von den Bergen hier an den Südstrand der Region ans Libysche Meer. Dabei werden verschiedene Landschaftsformen Kretas erlebt. Üppiges Grün mit Weinbergen und Olivenhainen, die fruchtbare Messara-Ebene, die karge Bergwelt des Asteroussia-Gebirges und die wilde Schönheit und das Blau des Libyschen Meeres. Es geht los Richtung Süden, bis nach 13 km die fruchtbare Messara-Ebene erreicht wird. Auf einer verkehrsarmen Strecke fahren Sie weiter bis zum Dorf Apesokari am Fuße des Asteroussia-Gebirges. Anfangs geht es bergauf über eine malerische und serpentinenreiche Straße und später über eine panoramische Straße bergab zum Fischerdorf Lentas. Der Fels über dem Dorf in Form eines Löwen (Leontas) gibt dem Dorf seinen Namen. Sie fahren an Lentas vorbei zum kleinen Ort Dyskos, wo das Meer zu einem erfrischenden Bad einlädt. In der Taverne und Unterkunft von Frau Voula kann das faszinierende Panorama genossen werden. Strecke 44 km - Zeit 5 Std. - Anstieg 690 m - Abstieg 1000 m - Schotterweg 1,5 km Unterkunft: Voulas Apartments oder ähnlich Verpflegung: Frühstück Tag 6 Dyskos – Krotos – Charakas – Tris Ekklisies Am letzten Tag verlassen Sie wieder die Unterkunft und das Gepäck wird zum Zielort gebracht. Sie fahren zunächst 9 km bergauf bis zum Dorf Krotos. Dann geht es ungefähr 30 km am Fuße des Asteroussia-Gebirges an vielen Dörfern vorbei Richtung Osten bis zum Ort Charakas. Von hier aus fahren Sie südlich bergauf auf eine Höhe von 630 m, bis sich das Libysche Meer beeindruckend vor Ihnen ausbreitet. Mit einem atemberaubenden Blick geht es 5 km bergab und das türkisblaue Meer ist zum Greifen nah. Der Geruch von Thymian und Salbei, sowie das Summen der Bienen begleiten Sie während der gesamten Abfahrt bis zum Zielort Tris Ekklisies. Hier wohnen Sie in den Zimmern von Frau Maria mit einem fantastischen Blick auf das Libysche Meer. Transfer to Hotel Petousis or similar, west of the city of Heraklion on Ammoudara beach Welcome, information meeting, e-bike handover with customisation and dinner together Accommodation in the designated rooms Accommodation: Hotel Petousis or similar Meals: Dinner Day 2 Ammoudara - Kavrochori - Korfes - Kroussonas - Pentamodi - Ammoudara The excursion starts at the hotel on Ammoudara beach. You drive in a south-westerly direction to the village of Kavrochori. The landscape is Mediterranean in character with vineyards and olive groves. After about 15 kilometres, just outside the village of Korfes, you will see the largest and oldest oak tree in Crete. You then drive to the historic capital of Kroussonas. It lies at an altitude of around 500 metres, making it the highest point on today's route. Then it's downhill through a valley and immediately uphill again to the picturesque village of Pentamodi. From here, the route continues downhill to the starting point, Ammoudara beach. The excursion ends with a wine tasting in a well-known winery in the village of Asites. You drive in a southerly direction from the city of Heraklion, which you leave behind after 3 kilometres. The route is characterised by Mediterranean vegetation. After 20 kilometres you reach the village of Dafnes, which is considered the wine capital of Crete. You continue your route in a southerly direction to the village of Agios Thomas. Here you can visit the Roman tombs from the 3rd century AD. You can take a break in the village café and leave your bikes safely. From here, walk about 100 metres up the hill. The Roman tombs are located on this hill. Continue to the village of Agia Varvara, which you cross and after 4 kilometres you reach the village of Prinias at an altitude of 610 metres. Immediately after this village is the chapel of Agios Panteleimon on a hill. To visit this chapel, it is a 30-minute walk from here. It is very worthwhile because the panoramic view from here is unique. The next important village in the area is Asites. Here you will find the Diamantakis winery, which offers 8 different wines for tasting. After the wine tasting, you and your bikes will be taken back to the hotel. Ride your e-bike in a south-westerly direction to the village of Zaros. It lies at the foot of the Ida Mountains, the highest mountain range in Crete. Zaros supplies almost the entire island with water, the region is fertile and the lake of Zaros is a popular excursion destination. The nearby trout farm in particular attracts locals and tourists to savour the delicacies. To reach Zaros, you have to pass through many villages in central Crete. The most important of these is the village of Agios Myron at an altitude of 440 metres. Agios Myron is named after St Myron, who was born here between 250 and 350 AD and was the first Christian bishop of Crete. According to legend, one day a lion appeared north of the settlement and the inhabitants began to flee their homes in fear of the animal. But St Myron prayed for their salvation and the lion died. If you look closely today, you can see the lion's tail in the north-western part of the village and its head in the south-western part, right in the cave where the holy water flows. The route takes you from the mountains here to the southern beach of the region on the Libyan Sea. You will experience the different landscapes of Crete. Lush greenery with vineyards and olive groves, the fertile Messara plain, the barren mountain world of the Asteroussia Mountains and the wild beauty and blue of the Libyan Sea. We head south until we reach the fertile Messara plain after 13 kilometres. Continue on a road with little traffic to the village of Apesokari at the foot of the Asteroussia Mountains. Initially, the route climbs along a picturesque, winding road and later descends along a panoramic road to the fishing village of Lentas. The rock above the village in the shape of a lion (Leontas) gives the village its name. You drive past Lentas to the small village of Dyskos, where the sea invites you for a refreshing swim. In Mrs Voula's taverna and accommodation you can enjoy the fascinating panorama. Distance 44 km - time 5 hours - ascent 690 m - descent 1000 m - gravel path 1.5 km Accommodation: Voulas Apartments or similar Meals: Breakfast Day 6 Dyskos - Krotos - Charakas - Tris Ekklisies On the last day, you leave your accommodation again and your luggage is taken to your destination. You first cycle 9 km uphill to the village of Krotos. Then you cycle about 30 km along the foothills of the Asteroussia Mountains past many villages in an easterly direction to the village of Charakas. From here you drive south uphill to an altitude of 630 metres, until the Libyan Sea spreads out impressively before you. With a breathtaking view, you descend for 5 kilometres and the turquoise blue sea is within your grasp. The smell of thyme and sage and the buzzing of bees accompany you throughout the descent to your destination of Tris Ekklisies. Here you will stay in Mrs Maria's rooms with a fantastic view of the Libyan Sea.
