After an introduction to how the e-bikes work, we ride 1 km to a café, where we have breakfast together each day. Today, we experience Crete’s diverse landscapes: lush greenery with vineyards and olive groves, the fertile Messara Plain, the rugged mountain scenery of the Asteroussia Mountains, and the wild beauty and deep blue waters of the Libyan Sea.
We set off southwards and, after 12 km, reach the village of Agios Thomas, where we visit ancient Roman tombs. We then continue for another 25 km along quiet roads to the village of Vassiliki at the foot of the Asteroussia Mountains. At first, we climb along a picturesque winding road with numerous hairpin bends, before descending on a panoramic road towards the fishing village of Lentas. The lion-shaped rock above the village – Leontas, meaning “lion” – gives Lentas its name. We continue past Lentas to the small village of Dyskos, where the sea invites us to take a refreshing swim. At Mrs Voula’s, we can enjoy the fantastic panorama over cold drinks and a generous lunch.
